Description:
Light brown with stippled texturing, Toikkas Tilda bird is simply beautiful. The light stippling technique is the result of an accident: Nuutajrvi workers noticed that dirt from the molds left light grey markings on the glass. Toikka, being the innovative designer he is, embraced this accident and incorporated it into the design of Tilda. Dirt was added to a spikey mold to give the bird its distinctive look and texture. The deeper grey lines against the birds brown body are delicate and lovely; this bird certainly rewards the attentive eye. Make this whimsical bird a part of your collection; you will appreciate its lovely texture and gorgeous detail.
Birds by Toikka
Oiva Toikka (1931-2019) is one of the greatest names in Finnish design. His iconic collection of Birds by Toikka first took flight back in 1972 at the Nuutajärvi glass factory with the creation of his small glass Flycatchers. Since then hundreds of new birds have joined the flock. The collection embodies a rich fusion of glassmaking traditions and would not have been possible without Toikka’s hands-on-approach at the glassworks and his keen understanding of each employee’s skills. Today, each glass bird is handcrafted and mouthblown at the Iittala Glass Factory.
