A member of the chatty Jay family, the Toikka Siberian Jay is the smallest yet most good-natured member of the bunch. In order to make itself seem more statuesque, the bird features a slightly puffed chest whose shape is mouth-blown to perfection. Reflecting the bird’s soft nature, the Siberian Jay is cozily colored in stormy gray across its chest and back but don’t become too subdued; its entire underside and tail are speckled in a bright and bubbly orange hue.A crystal clear head sits directly atop of its body and serves as a showcase for the bird’s flashy metallic beak, which adds adorable flair. A Toikka original, the Siberian Jay is a playful and soothing addition for any collector.
Birds by Toikka
Oiva Toikka (1931-2019) is one of the greatest names in Finnish design. His iconic collection of Birds by Toikka first took flight back in 1972 at the Nuutajärvi glass factory with the creation of his small glass Flycatchers. Since then hundreds of new birds have joined the flock. The collection embodies a rich fusion of glassmaking traditions and would not have been possible without Toikka’s hands-on-approach at the glassworks and his keen understanding of each employee’s skills. Today, each glass bird is handcrafted and mouthblown at the Iittala Glass Factory.
