The beloved Butler, one of the late Oiva Toikka's most impressive designs, slips on a new soft shade for 2019: Sand. The iittala Toikka Butler was inspired by the traditional notion of a formal butler, with his shoes always polished and his demeanor always cordial. His character is far from stuffy, however; though he abides to his uniform of the classic dinner jacket with a flared out tail, he also dons stylish stripes that accentuate his proper posture from head to rounded toe. But perhaps the first feature to you'll see when he greets you is his prominent, pointed beak, followed by the sleek tuft of hair artfully handcrafted from opalescent, mouth-blown glass.

Birds by Toikka
Oiva Toikka (1931-2019) is one of the greatest names in Finnish design. His iconic collection of Birds by Toikka first took flight back in 1972 at the Nuutajärvi glass factory with the creation of his small glass Flycatchers. Since then hundreds of new birds have joined the flock. The collection embodies a rich fusion of glassmaking traditions and would not have been possible without Toikka’s hands-on-approach at the glassworks and his keen understanding of each employee’s skills. Today, each glass bird is handcrafted and mouthblown at the Iittala Glass Factory.
