Inspired by the stunning glacial Nordic landscapes and the seabirds that frequent them, Toikka created the 2019 Annual Bird and Egg called Vuono. Vuono is Finnish for fjord - a deep, narrow, and long sea or lake drain surrounded by steep land. Fittingly, marine blue hues can be found in the reflective stripes that grace Vuono and her egg from top to bottom, moving in wave-like swirls. The rest is a beautiful indigo color, which may feel blue, grey, or violet to you depending on your mood and perspective. Only available for 2019, each handcrafted iittala Toikka Vuono 2019 Annual Egg carries the signature O. Toikka IITTALA 2019 to ensure authenticity. Like all Toikka treasures, yours may not look just like the one pictured; the variation in craftsmanship is what makes each one a truly unique piece of art.

Birds by Toikka
Oiva Toikka (1931-2019) is one of the greatest names in Finnish design. His iconic collection of Birds by Toikka first took flight back in 1972 at the Nuutajärvi glass factory with the creation of his small glass Flycatchers. Since then hundreds of new birds have joined the flock. The collection embodies a rich fusion of glassmaking traditions and would not have been possible without Toikka’s hands-on-approach at the glassworks and his keen understanding of each employee’s skills. Today, each glass bird is handcrafted and mouthblown at the Iittala Glass Factory.
